Mohammed Al Shibar Receives Penn State Funding for Spring Research

2014 Jan 15

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has awarded an undergraduate research grant to Mohammed Al Shibar, a sophomore from Erie. Al Shibar's study, "Effects of 1,4-Dimethylnapthalene on Yeast's (Saccharamyces cerevisae) Amino Acid Metabolism and Gene Expression", will be supervised by Michael Campbell.

Penn State Behrend awarded more than $60,000 in grant funding to 108 student researchers this semester. The college provides nearly $350,000 each year to support undergraduate research by its students.

Penn State Behrend is a comprehensive residential college with 4,350 students. The heart of the campus -- the former Glenhill Farm -- was donated by Mary Behrend, the widow of Ernst Behrend, who founded the Hammermill Paper Co. in Erie in 1898. For more information, visit behrend.psu.edu.
